Relationship - How Long Or How Short ?

How long is your relationship now? I learned it's not  how long or how short is your relationship made  you and your partner stay together. There are some couple who got married after long engagement but separated too after few years or months of living together as husband and wife. There were also some who decided to bind themselves after few meetings and still living together and getting stronger times go by.

I heard my niece and a friend of her discussing about this topic yesterday night. Her friend is favor on long engagement before getting into marriage and my niece believes that it's not on how long but how the lovers take themselves. It's how they love each other and how they handle the relationship to make it more stronger. At their young age, both were 14 years old, they were into serious topic like this, and I am not surprised because of what we call new generation or advance technology now a days are really wide. While, listening in a bit far a distance with them, I remember my mom  was very strict with this matter when I was on that age,  they say it's not yet the right time to talk about this topic because it can only give us wrong information, but not this time, because we are into the world of advancement.  After few minutes of listening with them and finished their discussion, even if they have different views about having relationship, at the end both shows they are open minded about the issue.

For me, based on my experiences it's not how long or how short, but it's how both love each other, the commitment, respect and trust can make relationship more stronger. Added the most important thing, the guidance from up above. What about you? What is your opinion with this matter?

  1. Very interesting post (as always) - My ideas have changed along the years. Now I think how long or how short have no value really, it depends on the people in the relationship, the love they share and mostly how they get on together, the values and ideas they share.
I learned (painfully) you can love somebody very much but a life together won't work.
And love somebody not so much at the beginning and have a fruitful life together, love growing and growing always.
    Happy Tuesday!!!

  2. Time has nothing to do with it, it's all about love, feeling, chemestry and committment. A 3 year old relationship doesn't mean they are good, because probably they stil don't know each other, which means, they have wasted those 3 years. A shorter relationship, well taken, well done, well achieved, sometimes have better foundation because they do know how to live it day after day. So no, time has nothing to do with it.

Thanks for sharing, you're right Marie, it's not on how long or how short, but it's on how both love and respect each other, I've learned it too from my past experiences.

  4. Based on my experience..it is easier said than done..it is easy to say..long engagement will test one's love for each other..BUT the real test comes After Marriage..

It is so easy to say I love you and I will stay forever..BUT these words and every person's feeling CAN Change..If LOVE has not been Taken Care of ;)

  5. Hi Miss Lego,

Thank you for your inspiring comment too,it's really not the time, it's the love and affection from each other, in my case, 13 years long engagement before got married and another 12 years with him after marriage, we known each other for 25 years, but still something is missing that we can't figure out, until I realized it's really not that time we've been together, what important is your love for each other can make relationship more stronger.

Thanks honey, for keeping around!:)Have a wonderful day!

  8. Time has no meaning in any relationshp. Its what you have thats important. One day, one year, doesn't matter at all.

  9. An interesting topic. The duration of time in a relationship depends on how well both sides get along with each other. Sometimes, a long relationship doesn't end up in marriage compared to a short one that lasts longer after getting to know more of each other.

  13. Hi Sagittarian,

My wife and I got married after 3 years of engagement. We're on the 11th year right now and I'm still in love with her. Although, I'm thousand miles away from my wife and my son but I'm still excited to hear a word from them either through chat or email. That's how I give importance to my family. I guess the relationship all depends on how the couple is prepared into a much deeper relationship and obligations attached with it.

  15. Very thought provoking! I completely agree with you. It's how your love lasts. I always tell friend who want HUGE weddings that it's not the wedding that matters - it's the marriage!

I've been lucky - I married this really great guy almost 30 years ago and we're still crazy about each other!
